ABOUT

Ella Bryant is visual artist based in Bristol. Her ongoing project Internal Pressure draws on personal experience to explore the fragility of the mind, seeking to find a visual language for mental states.

She is interested in how the loss of an individual's presence and grounding allows perceptions, structures and boundaries to slip and become confused. In her work she often uses peculiar or unrecognisable found objects as ready-mades or materials to build assemblages, which she merges with photography using black and white darkroom processes such as liquid emulsion and photograms.

She completed an MA in photography at London College of Communication in 2010 where she began this project. Then in 2017 she did an MA in Art Psychotherapy at University of South Wales where she explored the relationship between art making and psychology in more depth.

She works as an Art Therapist for The Portable Wellbeing Studio and Chroma, bringing art therapy to non-clinical environments. As well as this she has worked for the last 17 years as an Art Workshop Facilitator working with organisations such as Holburne Museum, Pump House Gallery, Brighton Museum, Glastonbury Festival, Bristol Folk House and Kingsgate Workshops. She also runs a number of Print Camps throughout the year at her family's farm near Bath. She regularly exhibits her artwork.
